About Me
Artist Statement
I am an abstract artist whose work explores the emotional power of colour, shape and movement. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, I am drawn to their richness, depth of colour and expressive qualities, using them to transform thoughts, emotions and memories into visual form.
New Works for 2026 ''Other Worlds''
In 2026 I have embarked on a new series of paintings which have taken me in quite a different direction with a theme around ''Other Worlds'' incorporating amorphous forms into a landscape and exploring how these forms can have an emotional connection with each other and also with the viewer.
Biography
It is only in the last couple of years that I have decided to take my painting a serious step further and make it into a career, a scary but exciting shift in my life that I am loving.
I grew up in the West Midlands and spent 8 years with my parents in the Middle East, returning to finish my education in the UK which focused on art, music and history, three subjects linked in so many ways and have been a foundation for my continuing passion of painting and drawing and sometimes still making music when I have time.
In the last couple of years my passion for painting has come to the fore with an urge to discover what is inside of me and what needs to be said through paint, I have been helped immensely on the way from my partner, friends and relatives, the support has been incredible and I feel very lucky in that respect.
I studied art at school and went to complete a foundation course in art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic in the late 1980s, then life took a turn I moved to London and worked for a variety of organisations all with their own very creative remit, so again a very lucky chain of events that kept my passion for art alive even if not always practicing it.
Moving to Somerset 5 years ago I joined our local group which is led by an incredible teacher who has shown me so much about why we need to create, what is its purpose in our lives and how it can benefit others, all imbued with a great passion, experimentation, discussion and practice.
And so here I am now, I try to live in the moment and bring passion and honesty into my work and hopefully convey this to the viewer. The work I produce will not be for everyone and that's fine, the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same thing, but I hope it asks questions or brings peace or provokes thoughtful conversations.
